College Readiness & Success Campaign
The College Readiness & Success Campaign will engage in two primary activities:
-
Making the case for the importance of expanding college readiness and success to the region’s economy and competitiveness, and building support among key decision-makers in business, education and government, as well as the public.
-
Creating and disseminating a set of key policy imperatives, data sources and “Leadership Goals” to key decision-makers, encouraging policy reform.
The Campaign will also promote key "Leadership Goals" throughout the region to make a substantive impact on high school completion and college readiness and success.
Primary objectives of the College Readiness & Success Campaign include:
- Raising the awareness among New England’s key decision-makers and stakeholders of the growing college readiness crisis, particularly business and education leaders and public policy officials.
- Leveraging timely national policy initiatives and change agendas more broadly across New England.
- Creating a sense of urgency about the necessity of more fully integrating education (K-12 and postsecondary), workforce and economic development policies, and removing barriers to students’ progress, transitions and success.
- Promoting the adoption of integrated education, workforce and economic development policies to increase the supply of skilled workers to meet the region’s economic, social and cultural needs.
- Providing a series of high profile policy forums, discussions and exchanges in which cutting-edge practices and policy strategies from national initiatives are shared with government, business and education leaders from the New England states.
- Catalyzing teams of policymakers from the New England states in developing state-specific policies aimed at breaking down barriers and increasing postsecondary and career readiness, access and attainment—particularly for underrepresented populations and other groups of concern.
- Sharing the findings and policy recommendations of the New Directions regional campaign with other states and interested people and organizations across the U.S.
- Motivating states to support college and career readiness initiatives over the long-term, including incentives for community-based efforts uniting local leaders, educators and business groups to work together to expand college and career readiness.
