Investing in high-quality pre-kindergarten would not only reap benefits for children’s education, but would also produce billions in savings to state and federal budgets over the next decades. Enriching Children, Enriching the Nation – a new book by Economic Policy Institute Research Associate Robert G. Lynch – shows how pre-K programs that are either targeted for at-risk children or made universal for all three- and four-year-olds would yield strong economic benefits by raising incomes, reducing crime, improving workforce skills and educational attainment of children and adults, while increasing revenues and reducing costs for every state and the federal government.
